Chicken Coop Update July 2006

Hello to all my quilting friends. I have been very busy this past year at the Coop. We have a great line up of fall classes with a new block of the month program called New Chicks on the Block.

By the end of this month the website will have been updated and will have all our kits online for your shopping convenience. I sure miss computer boy who grows up and leaves home. He visits every so often.

The Chicken Coop was on the run this spring. I attended quilt shows in Red Deer and the hospitality by the Red Deer ladies was awesome. Creative Stitches, Edmonton and Calgary Heritage Park. I met many new quilters and rekindled some old acquaintances.

The month of June 10 – 17 had 227 women driving up and down the Yellowhead highway between Mundare and Lloydminster playing The First Annual Quilting on the Yellowhead shop Hop. Congratulations to Penny Granger of Ranfurly, AB. Our grand prize winner $500.00 in gift certificates and to all our fat quarter draw winners and daily door prize winners. 686 fat quarters were sold during the Hop for the game. A heart felt thank you to all who participated. Mark your calendar June 9 – 16 2007 we play again.

August 19/2006 brings the 11th Annual Chicken Coop Quilt Show held at the Seniors Drop in Center. The show runs from 11:00 – 5:00. Our feature artists are The City Chicks. Mary White, Barb Goodkey and Jo Vandenberg all of Edmonton.

September 23/24 will are having Gail Duggan of Calgary teaching a weekend workshop on taking the fear out of free motion quilting. This class will cover such topics as stabilizers, needles, needle lace and much, much more. The project will be a tote bag covered in free motion micro quilting .Please register early to reserve your spot.

September 28, 29 and 30 brings our 7th Annual Shop Hop North played with the Edmonton stores and Camrose. This year we will have a buddy program and Christmas challenge project. Load up the car with a group of friends and join the fun.

So as you can see this chicken has been busy but I truly enjoy what I do so it mostly seems more like fun than work. Whenever you can spend a day talking with quilting friends, or showing someone how to do binding or just sharing a little of what you know, I just has to be a good day. Hope to see you soon at a class or just for a visit.
